Extended loans will be offered to students with particular disabilities or health conditions, meaning that books will be available for a four-week loan period. Students are advised to contact the Disability Adviser to access these.

Individual inductions

These are available with the Library Manager or member of staff and can be beneficial for students who are not used to independent research and accessing materials from the library. In addition, assistance with elected projects can also be offered, which can be useful if you have selected a subject and need help to find suitable resources.

Essay writing - Reference Manager

Endnote is a reference managing software tool which can help you organise all your references and bibliography when writing essays. This tool can also be used to keep track of useful bits of information you may find helpful later on, when revising. The package is linked to Microsoft Word and is available on all of the public machines. This package and its functions could be very useful for dyslexic students with a learning difference who may struggle with referencing. The Library can also offer one-to-one assistance with using Endnote.

Concept Mapping

Text to Speech

also is available on all networked open access PCs. This software provides readback of text, including PDF files, user files, and web pages. It is useful for listening to written work to check for  grammar and spelling transferring long written passages into audio, which can be saved in MP3, WMA or WAV formats. It is especially good for improving the accuracy of written passages as it helps with deciding between homophones, frequently the cause of spelling errors. Video tutorials provide support from the toolbar.
